304th Prithvi Jayanti Celebrated, Monarchy’s Contribution and National Unity Honored
The 304th birth anniversary of King Prithvi Narayan Shah, coinciding with National Unity Day, was celebrated nationwide with grand programs. Historians, monarchy supporters, representatives of various organizations, and the general public participated, giving special significance to the occasion. The events emphasized national unity, cultural identity, and the historical role of the monarchy. During the programs, King Prithvi Narayan Shah’s unification campaign and his vision of Nepal as a “shared garden of four castes and thirty-six ethnicities” were prominently discussed. Speakers highlighted the monarchy’s role in establishing Nepal as an independent and unified nation, stressing that his ideas remain relevant in today’s context.
Participants paid tribute by garlanding statues and portraits of the king, while speakers emphasized the monarchy’s invaluable contributions to preserving Nepalese identity, culture, and sovereignty. The occasion also served as a reminder to strengthen national unity and cooperation, which are crucial in the present-day scenario. Born in 1779 BS (1722 AD), King Prithvi Narayan Shah began his campaign for national unification at the age of 22, laying the foundation of modern Nepal. In his honor, Paush 27 is observed annually as Prithvi Jayanti and National Unity Day. With ongoing discussions about the historical role of the monarchy and the importance of national unity, this year’s celebration carried particular significance.
